Joyce L. Kummer, 77 years of Tiffin, Ohio, died at 2:05 a.m. Tuesday, in Flower Hospital, Sylvania, Ohio. She was born on October 21, 1927 in Marion, Ohio to the late Clarence Andrew and Mildred Leona (Covert) Baker. On June 3, 1949 in she married Donald Thomas Kummer. He died on June 13, 1976.
Survivors include 1 sons, Douglas A. (Christine M.) Kummer of Toledo, Ohio; a son-in-law, K. Todd Lower of Toledo, Ohio; 3 daughters, Susan E. Irby of Greenville, SC; Karen L. (Randall T.) Etzkorn of Venice, FL; and Dawn E. (Kevin J.) Wise of Lugoff, SC; 8 grandchildren, Austin Irby of Jackson Hole, WY; Anna Yvonne Lower of Toledo, Ohio; Zachary and Amanda Etzkorn of Venice, FL; Taylor and Michaelah Wise of Lugoff, SC; and Colleen and Brenna Kummer of Toledo, Ohio; 2 brothers, Wayne A. (Gianna M.) Baker of Ocala, FL. and Myron Lowell Baker of Fostoria, Ohio; 2 sisters, Esther Mae (Gene) Day of Bryan, Ohio; Carolyn M. Alford of Ft. Wayne, IN; and M. Yvonne (Tom L.) Paffenbarger of Bluffton, SC.
She is preceded in death by 1 daughter, Beverly J. Lower,; 1 sister, Jeanalyce Nighswander, and her stepfather, Stephen Mason.
Mrs. Kummer was a 1945 graduate of Columbian High School, Tiffin; and she attended Tiffin University. Her work career included the Basic in Tiffin, the Bascom Elevator, the Accounting Department at J.C. Penney, Tiffin, and a bookkeeper for Dr. Nimr, Toledo, Ohio until her retirement in 1992.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was President of the Autumnwood Auxiliary from 1994-1996 and in 1998-1999 and she resigned due to illness; she was Autumnwood Volunteer of the Year in 1995; member of the Grandmother’s Club, Tiffin, Farm Women’s Club, Tiffin, Neighborhood Pinochle Club since 1963 and she was an accomplished seamstress.
The Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 13, 2004 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin with the Rev. James K. Say officiating. Burial will take place immediately following in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8:30 P.M. on Friday, November 12, 2004 at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113. There will be a Wake Service at 8:15 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday. The Rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the Mass at the church.
