Joseph C. Smith, 75, of Tiffin, died at his residence at 7:30am on Monday, October 15, 2007.
He was born on January 18, 1932 in Tiffin to the late Ralph F. and Liona (Steinmetz) Smith. On August 16, 1952 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, he married Rose A. Schalk and she survives.
Mr. Smith is survived by three sons, Daniel L. (Teresa) Smith, Patrick J. (Leanne) Smith, and Gregory J. (Lori) Smith, all of Tiffin; seven daughters, Angela R. Smith of Lancaster, Ohio, Connie (Steve) Margraf of New Riegel, Ohio, Donna J. Smith of Ottawa, Canada, Cathy (Joe) Nagy of San Diego, California, Marilyn (Duane) Huffman of Marysville, Ohio, Martha (Mike) Somers of Tiffin and Rose (Dave) Horn, both of Tiffin; 23 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Victor Smith, Sr. of Republic; four sisters, Mary Alice Bouillon of New Riegel, Theresa (Gene) Walliser of Tiffin, Sr. M. Bonaventure of Toledo, Ohio, and Sr. Regina of Bryan, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Allison Huffman, brothers Paul Smith and Herman Smith, a sister Irene Steinhauser, and an infant sister.
Mr. Smith graduated from Calvert High School in 1950. Joseph was a dairy, beef, and grain farmer and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was also a member of the New Riegel Moose, Tiffin Knights of Columbus, NFO member, St. Joseph Bingo volunteer, Outstanding Young Farmer Award recipient, Commission on Aging volunteer delivering meals, and a past member of Holy Name Society of St. Joseph.
Joe loved attending Calvert football games, taking his grandchildren on Gator rides around the farm, and talking and visiting with his friends and neighbors. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
A funeral Mass will be officiated by Rev. Joseph Szybka at 11am on Thursday, October 18, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin. The Rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the funeral at the church. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3pm to 8pm on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Traunero Funeral Home 214 S. Monroe Street Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice Care, Calvert Catholic Schools, St. Joseph Church, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
