Joseph Anthony Rossano, 85, of Tiffin, died at 5:15 am Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at St. Francis Home, Tiffin.

He was born November 2, 1931, in Northview, West Virginia, to Michael and Helen (Postilione) Rossano.  He was raised by his father and step-mother, Anne Rossano.  He married Judith McQuown in 1958 in Akron, and she survives.

Also, surviving are two sons, Mark Rossano of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and Matthew (Rhonda) Rossano of Independence, Louisiana; four granddaughters, Dani, Natalia, Alicia, and Julia; and six brothers and sisters.

Joe attended West High School in Akron, Ohio, where he participated in football and baseball.  He graduated from the University of Akron and was a member of the freshman football team.  He was a former director of physical education and administrator of the Tiffin YMCA from 1961 to 1968, as well as a staff board member.  He served on the board of directors of the Seneca County Humane Society for five years.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic minister and lector for many years.

He was also a member of the Allen Eiry Senior Center and Knights of Columbus Council 608.  He served as company commander of the Tiffin 396th Ordnance Direct Support Unit.  He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was the recipient of the Bronze Star and the Vietnamese Honor Medal.  He retired from Webster Industries after 25 years of service and retired from the US Army Reserves with the rank of Major.  Joe played many years in the Tiffin fast pitch softball league, and in 1968 he won the award for highest batting average in tournament play.  He was an avid handball player, enjoyed running, and was a long time member of the Tiffin YMCA.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 25, 2017, from 11 am until time of services at 1 pm, at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio  44883 (419)447-3113.  Rev. Joseph Szybka will officiate, and burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Seneca County.
