JOHN H. KUMMERER, SR.

d. October 27, 2006

John H. Kummerer, Sr., age 78, of Tiffin, Ohio, died at 2:30 pm, Friday, October 27, 2006, at St. Vincent-Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

He was born August 14, 1928, in Republic to the late John A. and Lenora (Fox) Kummerer. On May 30, 1953 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin he married Dorothy F. Schreiner.

John is survived by his wife, his five sons, and their families; LTC John H. (Susan) Kummerer USA Ret., of Succasunna, N.J. and their children Kelly and Joshua; Dennis (Joan) Kummerer of Findlay, and their sons, Andrew (Natalie), and 2nd LT Michael and Patrick; Rev. Timothy Kummerer of Defiance; Kevin (Irene) Kummerer of Albany, GA, and their daughter, Gemma; Edward (Teresa) Kummerer of Fostoria, and their children, Tanna, Rachel, Liza and Jonathan; two sisters, Mrs. Frieda Beard, Sycamore; and Mrs. Arthur (Rita) Schank of Tiffin; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Ruth Marie Kummerer, Agnes Reiter, and Mary Alice Schank; two brothers, Joseph Kummerer and Louis Kummerer.

Mr. Kummerer proudly served his county in the United States Navy, and was stationed on the much decorated and historic U.S.S. Laffey. He retired after 43 years as a Machinist from the National Machinery Company, and was a member of its Quarter Century Club.

John was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a member of its Holy Name Society, was an usher, council man, and served as a board member for 23 years of the St. Joseph Parish Credit Union. He was a 3rd and 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Am. Vets., and the Allen Eiry Senior Citizens.

John found his greatest joy in the love of his wife, his children, and grandchildren. He found strength in Christ and his Catholic faith, and found courage through the support of many, many friends, especially his “card club”.

He was a faithful Calvert Booster, and a passionate Notre Dame fan. He daily flew with great pride the American flag.

Funeral Mass will be 11 am Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with his son, Rev. Timothy Kummerer, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military rites conducted by the United Veterans Council of Seneca County. Friends may call 4 to 8 pm Monday, October 30, at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419)447-3113, where the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree will stand Honor Guard from 6 to 8 pm. The Quarter Century Club will meet at 7:00 pm Monday, followed by the Rosary at 8 pm at the funeral home. The Rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the Mass at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages that memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Catholic School Tuition Assistance, The Calvert Foundation, The American Diabetes Association or the Diocese of Toledo Mission of Accompaniment in care of Traunero Funeral Home.
