John Charles Wagner of North Kingsville, OH, died Friday, July 4, 2003 at his residence after a long illness.
Mr. Wagner was born August 16, 1923 in Leipsic, OH to the late John E. and Helen G. (Barger) Wagner. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary (Lenhart) Wagner whom he married July 6, 1949 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. They were joined in marriage by Father Christian Daniel. They would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on July 6th. Both John (1949) and Rosemary (1947) are graduates of Heidelberg College and members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Conneaut, OH.
Mr. Wagner served during World War II in the Office of Strategic Service (OSS) in Europe. He was a prisoner of war for 9 months and awarded with 2 Purple Hearts.
He held several Executive Financial positions with Ohio companies including Claus Cutlery in Fremont, Huber Warco in Marion, Astatic Corporation in Conneaut, and ABS Industries in Mentor.
Other survivors include 5 sons and 1 daughter. They are John W. Wagner (Billie) of Marion, OH, Daniel E. Wagner (Judy) of Cheshire, CT, James M. Wagner of Edwardsburg, MI, Chris A. Wagner (Melissa) of Chagrin Falls, OH, Ann M. Stevens (Brian) of Chester Springs, PA, and Curt J. Wagner (Virginia) of Toledo, OH.
Also included in the family are 8 grand children, Joshua and Jessie Wagner, Eric Wagner, Jennifer Key, Christian and Ellie Wagner, and Lauren and Matthew Wagner.
Brothers and sisters include Mr. Richard (Lois) Wagner of Tiffin, OH, Mrs. Dewey (Eileen) Detray of McCutchenville, OH, Mrs. Charles (Catherine) Culichia of Ocala, FL, and a sister-in-law Norma Wagner of Tiffin, OH. Preceding Mr. Wagner in death was his brother, William W. Wagner on April 3, 2003, and his sister, Mary L. Wagner on April 18, 2003.
Burial is at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Tiffin, OH. Memorial contributions may be made, in lieu of flowers, to Calvert High School, Tiffin, OH, Kingsville Public Library, Kingsville, OH, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
