On this beautiful day of our Lord, May 13, 2005, John C. Laughlin passed to Heaven.
He was born to Noah and Enid (Braden) Laughlin in Mansfield, Ohio, and had three brothers, Charles, Raymond, & Robert, and one sister, Elinora, all of whom preceded him in death.
On October 31, 1942, he wed Anne Dubics in Sanford, North Carolina. They were married for 63 years and she survives and resides at their home in Tiffin. They had two children: a son, Darryl W. Laughlin (Von L. Laughlin) of Tiffin, a daughter, Karen Runion (Kenneth A. Runion) of McCutchenville. He also has a daughter, Sharlene Hauk. There are also five grandchildren: Keith A. Runion (Shawnie Runion) of McCutchenville, Stacy Laughlin of Findlay, Angel Laughlin of Auburn, Indiana, Bronn Laughlin of Tiffin, & Kaene Runion of Tiffin; and three great grandchildren: Brandon Kenneth Lee Runion of McCutchenville, Kaydee Alivia Runion of Tiffin, and Franklin Klingshirn of McCutchenville.
He served in the U.S. Army during the second world war as a Technician Fifth Grade, 326th Glider Infantry and was discharged October 30, 1945.
John and his wife, Anne, resided in Mansfield for a short time before moving to Tiffin to live and start their family. He was a masonry contractor until he joined General Electric and retired from there July 31, 1980 with 18 years of service.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed bowling in Tiffin leagues for many years. John was affiliated with Tiffin baseball for 25 years and served as a coach in Little League and Babe Ruth League. He was a certified umpire and District One Director of Babe Ruth League.
He belonged to several area clubs: Eagles, Moose, and Elks. He was a lifetime member of the Amvets, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, and the Dads of Foreign Service Veterans.
As per his wishes, there will be a private family graveside service at Seneca Memory Gardens, with Rev. Dr. Louis Dorsch officiating. The United Veterans Council of Seneca County will also provide military rites. There will be no visitation. He wished to be remembered with donations to Community Hospice Care, Tiffin, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
