John “Butch” T. Distel, 82, of Tiffin, died at 8:55 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2019, at his residence. He was born March 10, 1936, in Tiffin to Arthur and Cora (Schultz) Distel. He married Janice Biller Bland, September 3, 1994, in Tiffin and she survives.
Other survivors include four sons, Todd (Kelly) Distel of Carey, Brett (Anita) Distel of Rapid City, S.D., Eric (Dawn) Distel, and Richard Bland, all of Tiffin; two daughters, Lesley (Mike) Stapf of Lakeville, Minn. Brandi Bland, of Sycamore;18 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Jim Distel of Calabasa Calif.; a sister, Agnes Zeiger of Tiffin; three sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Distel, Marilyn Distel, both of Tiffin, and Jan Rahrig of Fostoria; two cats, Sassy Sue and Wanda.
He is preceded in death by six brothers, Howard, Gene, Dutz, Bob, Harv, and Dick Distel; and four sisters, Henrietta, Sr. Joan of Arc, Dorothy, and Sr. St. Martin.
John attended Calvert High School, was a member of the United States Army from 1959 to 1961. He retired as a truck driver. He was a member of the AMVETS. He loved his family and friends, his cats, and really just loved everyone. He would do anything to help anyone. Butch will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him.
There will be no visitation.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2019, at the AMVETS Post 48 in Tiffin.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Seneca County Humane Society or to Community Hospice Care.
