James L. Smith

James L. “Smitty” Smith, 82, of Tiffin, died at 12:09 pm, Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Autumnwood Care Center.

He was born January 29, 1942, in Seneca County, to Charles L. and Goldie M. (Bolen) Smith.

He is survived by a brother, Merle (Marilyn) Smith of Toledo, and nieces and nephews; Terry Csvernak, Jerry Smith, James L. Smith, Donita Smith, Tracey Smith, Lisa Hohman, Paula Mattero, Mary Smith, Brian Smith, Kelvin Smith, Scotte Smith, John Smith, and Andrea Rubert; and good friends, Dave and Jo Ann Purnell.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Melvin, Charles, Paul, Martin, and Donald Smith; a niece Barbara Brown; and a nephew, Eric Smith.

James attended Columbian High School and worked for Aramark at Heidelberg University for over 40 years. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ. He enjoyed walking all over town, always whistling. He also enjoyed church dartball and adult coloring books. He knew no strangers.

There will be no visitation. 

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Greenlawn Cemetery, with Pastor Audra Ferguson officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to TRAUNERO FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Autumnwood Care Center or to St. John’s UCC children’s ministries.
