Irene Marie Steinhauser, age 88, formerly of Cherry Street, Tiffin, Ohio died at 11:50 p.m. Thursday, September 14, 2006 in St. Francis Home, Tiffin. On December 8, 1917 in Tiffin, she was born to the late Ralph Francis and Liona T. (Steinmetz) Smith. On June 21, 1941 she married Flavius B. Steinhauser in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin. He died on October 22, 2000.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Mary Ann Walton and her husband Terry of Alvada; Jane Elchert and her husband Darl of Tiffin; 5 grandchildren; Pamela Therriault, Laura Lutes, Greg A. Elchert, Jolene Hicks, Brett E. Elchert, 7 great-grandchildren; P. Mitch Therriault, Marrisa Therriault, Tyler Hicks, Brandon Hicks, Preston Elchert, Presley Elchert and Brayden Elchert, 1 step grandchild; Heather Stanquist, 2 brothers; Victor C. Smith of Republic, Joseph C. Smith of Tiffin; 4 sisters, Sister Bonaventure (Lucille) Smith, O.S.U. of Toledo; Mary Alice Bouillon of New Riegel; Theresa Walliser of Tiffin; Sister Regina Smith, O.S.U. of Bryan, Ohio, two sisters-in-law, Glenda Smith and Gertrude Smith both of Tiffin.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister, and 2 brothers, Paul F. Smith and Herman G. Smith.

Mrs. Steinhauser was a 1935 Calvert High School graduate. She had been a homemaker and a former Avon Representative in the Bascom area. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Rosary Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella and the Mercy Hospital Sewing Volunteers. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting.

The Funeral Mass will be officiated by Rev. Timothy Ferris at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 18, 2006 in St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will take place immediately following in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, New Riegel. Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, September 17, 2006 at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113. A wake service will be held at 3:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The Rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the Mass at the church.

Contributions may be made to St. Mary Church, Bridge Home & Health Hospice, or Chiara Center Activities.
