Howard was born to the late Clarence and Olga (Houck) Tiell March 25, 1927 in Tiffin. He married Dorothy Jane Taylor July 2, 1949 in St. Mary Catholic Church, and she preceded Howard on June 9, 2000.
Howard is survived by two sons, Andrew Tiell of Temperance, Mich., and Gregory (Bonnie) Tiell of Tiffin; two daughters, Elizabeth (Walter) Koleno of Milan, Ohio , and Julia Tiell of Ajo, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Amanda (Neil) Sapra, Erin (Scott) Terry, Kristin (Andrew) DeWitt, Kimberly Tiell, and Katie Tiell; four great grandchildren, William Evan Terry, Emily Terry, Zarin Spara, and Sloane Sapra.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Louis, Bernard, Frederick and Thomas Tiell and three sisters, Dorothy Kopp, Margaret Gaietto and Anna Lou Scholl.
Howard was a 1945 graduate of Calvert High School and then served in the US Navy during WWII. He retired as a supervisor at American Standard Company. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, American Legion, and the Knights of Columbus.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 14, 2011, from 5 to 9 pm, with a Wake Service at 4:30 pm, at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419)447-3113. The Rosary will be recited in church 20 minutes prior to the Mass. Prayers will be said at 9:30 am Thursday, December 15, at the funeral home, followed by the funeral Mass at 10 am, at St. Mary Catholic Church. Rev. Gary Walters will officiate, with burial following in St. Mary’s Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the United Veterans Council of Seneca County.
Memorials may be made to Calvert Catholic Schools in care of the funeral home.
