Hilda Josephine Scherger, 95, of New Riegel, died at 6:22 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center, Tiffin.
Hilda was born April 1, 1921, in Seneca County to William and Anna (Welly) Sendelbach. She married Cyril J. Scherger April 26, 1941, in St. Boniface Catholic Church and he died November 16, 1976.
Survivors include three sons, Eugene (JoAnn) Scherger, David (Ann) Scherger both of Fostoria, and Ronald (Cindy) Scherger of New Riegel; four daughters, Anna Louise (Patrick) Scherger-Hoerig of Republic, Alice Scherger-Jones of New Riegel, Eileen (Ted) Scherger-Margraf of Tiffin and Donna (Randall) Scherger-Cajka of Bowling Green; a daughter-in-law, Jana Scherger of Fostoria and a brother-in-law, Father Herman Scherger of Cloverdale; 29 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Arthur Scherger, three sisters, Helen Siebenaller, Stella Hohman and Viola Lonsway; and two brothers, Marion and Emerson Sendelbach.
Hilda was a 1939 graduate of New Riegel High School. She was a homemaker, drove a school bus for the New Riegel schools, a member of All Saints Parish, Frenchtown, the Rosary Altar Society, Catholic Order of Foresters, the Daughters of Isabella and the Seneca County Farm Bureau.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2016, at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St. Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113 with a wake service at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Prayers will be said at 9:20 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016, at the funeral home followed by the
Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at All Saints Parish – St. Nicholas Chapel, Frenchtown with Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating. The Rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Frenchtown.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Cemetery Fund or to a charity of the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.
