Herman J. Tiell, age 87, of Tiffin, died at 12:01 a.m. Sun., January 31, 2016, at St. Francis Home.  He was born Sept. 27, 1928, in Berwick to Albert L. and Evangeline B. (Hoepf) Tiell.  He married Kathleen Warnement, Jun. 16, 1956, in St. Mary Catholic Church and she survives.

Other survivors include, a son, Bob (Gwen) Tiell of Mt. Vernon; three daughters, Pat (Urban) Scherley of Bellevue; Mary Jane (John) Leonowich, Elyria; and Karen (Charlie) Johnson, Minerva; 11 grandchildren, Krista (Dave) Sturdevant, Tony (Rachel) Scherley, Kevin Scherley, John Scherley, Michael (Xiumara) Leonowich, Bradley Leonowich, Jessica Johnson, Chas Johnson, Jacob Tiell, Shaye Tiell and Ryan Tiell; five great grandchildren, Easton, Andrew, Julia, Kyle and Tanner; a sister, Clara Rose (Tom) Schilling of Upper Sandusky; and a Sister-in-law, Peggy Tiell of Fremont.

He is preceded in death by two brothers, Fr. Maurice Tiell and Joseph Tiell; and a sister, Louise Matta.

Herman attended McCutchenville School, and served in the United States Army during the end of the Korean War.  He worked in home construction and later retired as a carpenter from Tiffin Developmental Center.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Moose Lodge in New Riegel. His hobbies included gardening, making maple syrup in the spring, playing cards, fishing, and many outdoor activities.

Visitation for family and friends will be 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wed., Feb. 3,  2016, at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St. Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113. A wake service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wed. at the funeral home.

Prayers will be said at  9:30 a.m. Thurs. Feb 4, 2016, at the funeral home followed by the funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Rev. Joseph Szybka will officiate.  The Rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the Mass at the church.  Burial will take place immediately following in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvert Catholic Schools, St. Joseph Church Lighting Fund, Tiffin Right to Life, or to Community Hospice Care in care of the funeral home.
