Helen F. Schalk, age 92, formerly of TR 94, New Riegel, Ohio, died at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, October 14, 2006, in St. Francis Home, Tiffin. She was born on February 4, 1914 in Tiffin to the late Edward and Mary (Goetz) Steinmetz. On November 28, 1940 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, she married Joseph A. Schalk. He died on February 25, 1995.
Survivors include 3 sons, Peter (Peg) Schalk, and Carl (Carolyn) Schalk, both of New Riegel; and John (Jeanne) Schalk of Fostoria, Ohio; 1 daughter, Ann (Mark) Foos of Helena, Ohio; 24 grandchildren and 37great grandchildren; 1 brother, Robert Steinmetz of Pemberville, Ohio; and 2 sisters, Mildred Stark of Tiffin and Beatrice Miller of Sycamore, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Ralph, Herman, Irvin, Arthur, and Eugene Steinmetz, and a sister, Ruth Schalk.
Mrs. Schalk was a member of the All Saints Parish and its Rosary Altar Society, in New Riegel and the Farm Bureau Council. She had been a homemaker and enjoyed sewing and making rag rugs.
The Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2006, in All Saint’s Parish Church, New Riegel, with Rev. Ron Schock officiating. Burial will take place in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 pm, Tuesday, October 17, 2006, at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S.
