Harold M. “Bud” Steinmetz, 95, of Tiffin, died at 8:35 a.m. Sunday, March 21, 2021, at Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria.
He was born December 28, 1925, in Tiffin, to Albert and Loretta (Lorentz) Steinmetz. He married Catherine Fritz on June 1, 1957, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Marywood. She died November 10, 2004.
Survivors include a son, Bernie (Shelly) Steinmetz of Tiffin; two grandchildren, Brittany (Stefan) Neeley of Hilliard and Ryan Steinmetz of Tiffin; two great grandchildren, Cecilia and Graham Neeley; a sister, Helen Michelli of Tiffin; a sister-in-law, Nancy Steinmetz of Tiffin, many nieces and nephews, and many friends at Good Shepherd Home including a special friend Margaret.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul, Donald and Thomas Steinmetz and a sister, Mary Houck.
Mr. Steinmetz served in the U.S. Army as a Tank Corps Specialist with the rank of Corporal. He was a lifelong farmer and he retired from Basic Refractories and also volunteered at Mercy Health Tiffin Hospital. After retiring, he worked in various part time positions at Haefling Printing, Mercy Health Tiffin Hospital and Mohawk Golf and Country Club. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Moose, American Legion, and VFW. He enjoyed following Cleveland and Ohio State sports with his family and had an interest in cars, tractors, agriculture and military heritage.
Private family visitation will be held at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St. Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113. The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 25, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. The Rosary will be recited in church 30 minutes prior to the Mass.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the United Veterans Council of Seneca County.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mercy Health Foundation Tiffin, St. Joseph Catholic Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
