Harland E. Brickner

Harland Elmer Brickner, 94, of Tiffin passed away very peacefully at 12:00 a.m., Saturday, February 8, 2025, at The Willows at Tiffin.

Harland was born on January 9, 1931, in New Riegel, to Emmanuel and Anna (Urban) Brickner. On July 5, 1958, he married Mary Jo Frankart in St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, and she died April 9, 2019. They were married for over 60 years.

Survivors include two sons, Christopher (Jennifer) Brickner of Leland, North Carolina, Keith (Linda) Brickner of Tiffin; four grandchildren, Christopher (Jackie) Brickner, Jr., Preston (Lauren Rosenberg) Brickner, Andrew (Summer Weinheimer) Brickner, Alecsander (Clare) Brickner; four step-grandchildren, Frank (Ali) Pezzano, Connie Pezzano, Leslie (Rob) Reinhart, Brad (Adrienne) Fatzinger; three great-grandsons, Brooks Brickner, Louie Brickner, Harland Brickner; two step-great-grandchildren, Colton Reinhart, Layla Reinhart; four sisters-in-laws, Norma (Charles O’Neil) Frankart of Akron, Irene (Peter) Belex of Warren, Darlene (Michael) White of Columbus, and Annie (Patrick) Hartenstein of New Riegel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, four brothers, Rev. Peter Brickner, Robert Brickner, Emmanuel “Blacky” Brickner, James Brickner; five sisters, Alberta Czyznik, Annabelle Sieling, Eunice Haward, Marlene SanGregory and infant sister Elizabeth Brickner.

Harland was a 1949 graduate of New Riegel High School where he excelled in basketball and baseball. He served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged. Harland retired from the National Machinery Company as a machinist after 37 years, was a member of its quarter century club and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

At the age of 91 he thought to get his name in the Webster dictionary by writing them a letter on the word “Gizaleach,” his definition of the word was, “The name of an unknown or unspecified item at the time of thought,” but due to their guidelines hasn’t been accepted as of yet. Memories and accomplishments include being a wonderful husband, raised a great family, was a great father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, a friend to all, loved playing a game of euchre anytime, sports minded, a fan of the Cleveland “Indians”, Cavs, and Browns, school record of 37 book reports completed his senior year, seeing a solar eclipse, and his name finally in the paper. 

Visitation will be noon to 1 pm Saturday, March 1, 2025, at All Saints Parish in New Riegel, followed by the Funeral Mass at 1 pm, with Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating. Burial will follow in St Mary's Catholic Cemetery with military rites by the United Veterans Council of Seneca County. The TRAUNERO FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 214 S.
