Germaine C. Scherger, 88, formerly of S. SR 587, New Riegel, Ohio, died at 2:40 a.m. Thursday, December 15, 2005, in St. Francis Home, Tiffin, Ohio.
She was born March 7, 1917, in Akron, Ohio, to the late John and Clara (Landoll) Kramer. On August 3, 1940, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Riegel, she married Carl A. Scherger, who died on July 19, 1997.
She is survived by two sons; Dennis (Sandy) Scherger of Whitehouse, Ohio and Greg (Kelly) Scherger of New Riegel; four daughters; Janice (Leon) Steyer of New Riegel, Elaine (Jake) Garcia of Burgoon, Ohio, Jane (Tim) Distel of Tiffin, and Jean (Mike) Rogier of Fostoria; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, two brothers; Robert C. (Doris) Kramer of Tiffin and Don (Bess) Kramer of Wichita Falls, TX; two sisters, Rosella (Wayne) Gnepper and Mildred (Louis F.) Lucius, both of New Riegel.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Aaron Distel and Jennifer Steyer.
Mrs. Scherger was a 1935 graduate of New Riegel High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of All Saints Parish of New Riegel, its Rosary Altar Society, and the Catholic Knights of Ohio. Her family and her faith were most important to her. She was an avid card player, loved to go fishing and she was a gifted seamstress. She had a newfound love of painting as a resident of St. Francis Home.
A Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Monday, December 19, 2005, at All Saints Parish, with Rev. Ron Schock celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery, New Riegel.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 18, 2005 from 2-7 PM at the Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-3113. A Parish Wake Service will be 7:00 PM Sunday, at the funeral home. Visitation will also be held at the church at 9:30 AM, Monday, with the Rosary being recited at 10:15 am Monday.
Memorials may be made to All Saints Parish or to the Chiara Center at St. Francis Home in care of Traunero Funeral Home.
