Gerald C. Runion

Gerald C. Runion, 87, of Tiffin, died at 1:46 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at Mercy-St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo.

He was born December 23, 1927 in Bloomville to Carl and Viola (Taylor) Runion. June 18, 1949 he married Rose Mary Schirack in St. Mary Catholic Church and she passed away June 26, 2012.

Survivors include a daughter, Deborah (Mike) Daniel of Tiffin; two sons, Gerald “Mike” (Kathy) Runion, and Patrick (Rhonda Creeger) Runion both of Tiffin; nine grandchildren; three step grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, one step great grandchild; three sisters, Ida Bell, Alice Fitch and Rita Fitch all of Tiffin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; six brothers, Carl, Kenny, Ed, Dale, Lyle, and Dick Runion; and two sisters, Gloria Fitch and Carol Angelbeck.

He served in the Army during the Korean War, than served in the National Guard. He retired as a mechanic from Mohawk Motors, later Central Transport. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the VFW, Eagles, Knights of Columbus, Allen Eiry Senior Center and Kiwanis Manor.

Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2015 at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 South Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113.  A wake service will be at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Prayers will be said at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the funeral home followed by the funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church concelebrated by Rev. Kishore Kottana and Rev. Frank Murd.  The rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the Mass at the church.  Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, with military rites by the Ohio National Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvert Catholic Schools, St. Mary Catholic Church or Donor's Choice in care of the funeral home.
