Gene K. Hassinger, age 75, of East CR 36, Tiffin, died at 5:25pm on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Stonewall Jackson Hospital, Lexington, Virginia.
He was born April 3, 1932 in Huron County, Ohio to the late Floyd and Marian (Ewing) Hassinger. On October 23, 1954 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, he married Collette Jolivette and she died July 4, 1980.
Survivors include a special friend, Loretta Elbon; two sons, David (PJ) Hassinger of St. Petersburg, Florida and Derek (Rebecca) Hassinger of Tiffin; two daughters - Diane Hoyda of Tiffin and Deidre (Mike) Herdlick of Tiffin; 10 grandchildren – Rachel Roszman, Joseph Roszman, Jacquelyn Roszman, Jenifer Hassinger, Timothy Hassinger, Madrienne Herdlick, Sawyer Herdlick, Chris O’Millian, Stephanie (Luke) Biller, Jeffrey (Lori) O’Millian; four great grandchildren; three brothers - Raymond Hassinger of Masillon, Ohio, Neil Hassinger of Wadsworth, Ohio, and Jerry Hassinger of Melmore; five sisters - Phyllis Cascaden of Punta Gorda, Florida, Connie Biller of Tiffin, Ruth Johnson of McCutchenville, Nancy Tackett of Columbus, Ohio, and Patty Reichert of Columbia, Indiana.
Preceding him in death was a brother, William Hassinger.
Mr. Hassinger was a 1950 Columbian High School graduate and served in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired owner of Jolly’s Drive In, a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Elks.
Funeral services will be officiated by Rev. Jan Kucera at 11am, Monday, July 2, 2007 at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 2-4pm and 6-8pm Sunday, July 1, 2007 at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio (419) 447-3113. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the funeral at the church. There will be a private burial at Seneca Memory Gardens at a later date.
