Ernest J. Hohman, 89, of Fostoria, died at 4:12am on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at his residence.

He was born in New Riegel on the family farm, on July 18, 1918 and was a son of the late Peter J. and Elizabeth Mary (Theis) Hohman. On January 3, 1942, he married Zita Scherger in St. Andrew Catholic Church in Liberty Township and she preceded him in death on June 11, 2006.

Survivors include three sons, Kenneth E. (Martha) Hohman of Fostoria, Marvin R. (Sharon) Hohman of New Riegel, and John M. (Valerie) Hohman of Tiffin; three daughters, Elizabeth L. Piotrowski of Lindenhurst, IL, Lunnette R. (Michael) Frase of New Riegel, and Rosalie (Paul) Distel of Tiffin; 22 Grandchildren, 20 Great-Grandchildren, and a sister, Bertha Coleman of New Riegel.

Mr. Hohman was preceded in death by 2 infant sons, Ernest Hohman, Jr. and Gerard Hohman; six brothers, Alfred Hohman, Raymond Hohman, Francis Hohman, Joseph Hohman, Sylvan Hohman, and Carl Hohman; four sisters Justina Dendinger, Mary Miller, Louise Borer, and Clara Hohman; and two grandchildren, Jamie & Jeremy Frase.

He attended New Riegel High School and was a retired farmer. Mr. Hohman was a member of All Saints Parish, New Riegel, the Catholic Order of Foresters, New Riegel Moose Lodge, All Saints Parish Council, Seneca County Farm Bureau, and was a former New Riegel School Board member.

The funeral Mass will be 10 am Monday, February 4, 2008, at All Saints Parish, New Riegel, with Rev. Randy Giesige officiating. The Rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the Mass on Monday. Burial will take place immediately following in St. Boniface Cemetery in New Riegel.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 3, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 pm, at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883, 419-447-3113. There will be a combined Wake Service/Catholic Order of Foresters Service at 8:30 pm Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Cathy Margraf 4-H Scholarship Fund, Community Hospice Care, Independence House, or to the Catholic Order of Foresters.
