Erma M. Smith, 87 years old, formerly of Kensington Avenue, Tiffin, died at 12:39 a.m., Thursday, February 5, 2004, at St. Francis Home. She was born on April 18, 1916 in Tiffin, to the late John and Lena (Erhardt) Manecke. On July 4, 1937 she married Vernus H. Smith at St. Mary Catholic Church. He died on January 4, 1992.
She is survived by one son, Gary (Barbara) Smith, of Tiffin; three daughters, Nancy Schindler and Denise (Larry) Miller, both of Tiffin; and Linda Setescak, of Hillsborough, New Jersey; 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson. She was preceded by one sister, Berneda Dunathan.
Mrs. Smith retired as a seamstress and clerk at The Boston Store. She had also worked as a seamstress for Singer and at one time she and her husband owned a grocery store. She also sold Avon for a short time to friends and neighbors. She was a wonderful homemaker, a great caregiver, and she truly loved and was loved by her family. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and a 1934 Columbian High School graduate.
Burial will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery after a private family funeral Mass.
