Ermal J. “Joan” Wagner, 84, of Tiffin, passed away at 5:19 a.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2018, surrounded by her three children at Providence Care Center, Sandusky.
She was born July 19, 1934, in Mannford Oklahoma, to Albert “Bert” and Alva Rado Luke Carson. She married George J. Wagner, January 16, 1954, in Jacksonville, Florida and was married for 45 years. He died December 7, 1999.
Survivors include a son, George J. (Milva) Wagner of Toledo; two daughters, Jane A. Wagner of Sandusky, and Joan K. (Ron) Wehrle of Reynoldsburg; two grandchildren, Antonio Wagner of Toledo, and Rebecca (Brian) Bivens, of Blacklick, Ohio; two great-grandsons, Carson and Liam Bivens; a brother, Johnny Robert Carson of Oklahoma; three sisters, J.D. Stigall, Nettie Brewster and Dorothea Maple all of Oklahoma.
She is preceded in death by her parents, an infant son John Albert and a brother Jesse Carson.
Joan was a 1952 graduate of Will Rogers High School, Tulsa, Oklahoma. She proudly served in the United States Navy WAVES. While stationed at the Jacksonville Naval Air Base, she met George J. Wagner of Tiffin, where both worked as telecommunications specialists. They married in the chapel at the Jacksonville Naval Base. After George was discharged from the United States Navy in 1956, they made their home in Tiffin. For several years, Joan worked in food service at Calvert Catholic High School. She later worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Yeager. Joan was a talented quilter and made lasting friendships with those in her quilt guild. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and actively volunteered at the church and other community organizations.
She enjoyed visiting Marblehead Lighthouse, Crane Creek State Park and Sunday drives with the family that many times ended with ice cream. Her fondest memories were being with her family especially the grandchildren and great-grandsons.
Friends and family may visit 4-8 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2018, at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St. Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113. A wake service will be at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, October 27, 2018, at the funeral home followed by the Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, Ohio. Rev. Joseph Szybka will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Home, Community Hospice Care and to the Alzheimer’s Association, Calvert Catholic Schools or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
