Dorothy L. Arnold, 90, of rural Tiffin, died at 9:58 am Sunday, November 22, 2020, at Taylor Assisted Living, Findlay.
She was born March 4, 1930, in Seneca County, to Fridolin and Marie (Gillig) Schwartzmiller. She married the love of her life David A. Arnold September 6, 1952, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Riegel. David died December 7, 2017.
Survivors include three sons, Kenneth (Janet) Arnold, John Arnold, and Philip Arnold, all of Tiffin; three daughters, Ann Moody of Findlay, Dorothy E. (Richard) LaFontaine of Findlay, and Julie (Kevin) Russell of Findlay; 13 grandchildren, Michelle (Chris) Hocevar, Kelly Widman, Samuel (Melissa) Arnold, Phylisa (Tim) Gill, Nick Moody, Tommy Moody, Matthew LaFontaine, Ethan LaFontaine, Jessica LaFontaine, Isaac LaFontaine, Brandon Russell, Logan Russell, and Aiden Russell; five great-grandchildren, Brayden Hocevar, Jacob Hocevar, Lucas Widman, Emily Widman, and Reagan Arnold; and a sister, Ruth Lucius of Perrysburg.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister Martha Finsel, a son-in-law Michael Moody and two brothers-in-law, Bill Lucius and Charles Finsel.
Dorothy was a 1948 New Riegel High graduate and she attended Bowling Green State University. She was born and raised on the farm which has been in the family since 1832. Dorothy was a homemaker providing for her family by gardening, canning and sewing. She worked alongside David on the dairy farm and raising a family. Dorothy was a charter member of the New Riegel Right to Life, Rosary Alter Society, Farm Bureau council and a 4-H advisor for many years. She was a member of All Saints Parish where she served as a lector and Eucharistic Minister. Dorothy enjoyed polka dancing and community activities at their Florida winter home in LeHigh Acres from 1996-2007. Dorothy was a loving mother devoting her life to her family by serving others and instilling a strong faith. Dorothy resided at Taylor Assisted Living for six years and the family would like to express their appreciation for the exceptional care provided by the staff. The family is also grateful for the care extended to Dorothy by Heartland Hospice.
A private funeral Mass for family was celebrated at All Saints Parish, with Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating. Burial was in St. Boniface Cemetery, New Riegel.
A public memorial Mass will be 11 am Saturday, September 11, 2021, at All Saints Parish, New Riegel. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall.
