Donald R. Thompson, age 78 years, of Miami Street, Tiffin, Ohio died at 4:40 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2005 in Ruffing Family Care Center, Tiffin, Ohio. He was born on June 23, 1927 in Findlay, Ohio to Charles Marion Thompson and Lavina (Ellinwood) Thomas. They do not survive. On February 14, 1948 in Newport, Kentucky, he married Pauline Malone and she survives.
Other survivors include, 5 sons, Don (Mary Jane) Thompson of Tiffin, Ohio; Dave (Carla) Thompson of Tiffin, Ohio; Gene (Cheryl) Thompson of Tiffin, Ohio; Jeff (Lori) Thompson of Tiffin, Ohio; and Steve (Ginger) Thompson of Selah, Washington; 2 daughters, Jane Thompson of Tiffin, Ohio; and Rebecca Caudill of Tiffin, Ohio; 21 Grandchildren, and 6 Great Grandchildren. He is preceded by 1 brother, Gene Thompson and 1 sister, Evelyn Perkins.
Mr. Thompson was a 1945 Columbian High School graduate, and he also attended Findlay College. He served in the United States Navy, during World War II. Mr. Thompson retired in 1989 after working for 41 years as a foreman at American Standard. He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Tiffin; 49th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Civil War Re-enactment Group; the Masonic Temple; V.F.W. Post 2858; Moose Lodge; Eagles Aerie 402.
Mr. Thompson enjoyed playing golf, bowling, camping and traveling throughout the United States and Canada. He was an avid photographer and loved fishing and boating on Lake Erie. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America as Cub Scout and Boy Scout leaders. He was respected by his co-workers and his supervisors as a fair person and innovative. Throughout his life he was a devoted family man.
The Funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Scott Hayward. Burial will take place in Greenlawn Cemetery, immediately following the service. The United Veteran’s Council of Seneca County will perform military honors at the gravesite. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, or to a charity of the Donor’s Choice.
