David James Bentz, age 61, of Tiffin , died at 8:05 pm Tuesday, August 16, 2011 , at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center.
David was born October 1, 1949 to the late Franklin F. and Valeria T. (Elchert) Bentz in Tiffin . He married Sandy (Coffman) Bland in 1968, they later divorced.
Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Bentz of Tiffin; a son George Bentz, of Tiffin; three grandchildren, Keilee, Shailee, and Emily Bentz; one great-granddaughter, Autumn England; one brother, Kenny (Evelyn) Bentz, of Tiffin; three sisters, Joan (Dr. Dale) Kieffer, of Tiffin, Mary Alice (Carl) Cessna, of Tiffin, Marg (John) Hoover, of Bascom; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Ward.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Bentz.
David was a 1967 graduate of Columbian High School. He worked at Atlas Crankshaft for 30 years and owned the Rail Lounge in Fostoria for 18 years. David was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Tiffin . He loved spending time with his family, friends, especially his grandchildren and his new great-granddaughter. David enjoyed fishing, shooting pool, playing cards, golfing, shuffle board, NASCAR, and football.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. , Friday, August 19, 2011 at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 South Monroe St. , Tiffin , Ohio , 44883 , 419-447-3113. A wake service will be held at 3:30 p.m.
Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. , Saturday, August 20 at the funeral home, followed by the funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary Walters officiating. The rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will take place immediately following in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery .
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Davita Seneca Dialysis, Bascom EMS, or to the American Diabetes Association in care of the funeral home.
