Dan McArthur Cranmore, 70, of Tiffin, died 5:50 a.m. Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay, Ohio.  He was born May 26, 1943 in Dayton, Tenn. to Daniel W. and Eva Mary (Schouggins) Cranmore.  He met and married the love of his life, a wife of 40 years, Candice J. (Johnston) Cranmore where they both worked at Archway Bakery in Ashland, Ohio.  They were married May 12, 1974 in Palm Beach, Fla. and she survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Stacey Cranmore of Ga.; Cindy (Rich) Harding of Ashland; a son Brian Cranmore of Tenn.; a special granddaughter, Morgan, that Dan and Candice have been raising since the loss of their daughter, Jody; a brother, Billy R. Cranmore of Ashland; four sisters, Sue (Lilly) Sample of Haysville, Oh.; Janet (Robert) Mumaw of Mineral Bluffs Springs, Ga.; Linda Whitmore of Shelby; Wanda Batterson of Lawton, Okla.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Berta Cranmore of Ashland; two brother-in-laws, Kirk (Mindy) Johnston of Ashland; Kim (Kathy) Johnston of Arizona; and mother and father-in-law, Louise and Ken Etzwiler of Ashland; 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Jody Cranmore; five brothers, James, Troy, Vinus, Dennis and Ted Cranmore.

Dan was a graduate of Ashland High School.  He served in the US Navy from 1962-1964 and was a barber on board the USS Kenneth D. Bailey (DDR-713).  Dan often talked of visiting Italy and Rome and all the wonderful sites while in the Navy.  He was a member of St. John's United Church of Church of Christ.

Dan and his family moved to the area from Upper Sandusky with Tiffin Bake Shop and worked there five years and then worked for 28 years at American Standard where he retired when the plant closed.

He was a wonderful, caring and tender-hearted husband, hands on Dad and Grandpa.  He enjoyed just doing things that made you happy whether it was painting a room, playing endless board and yard games, or taking his girls when they were young swimming and fishing and enjoying all of their activities... and as "Papa" he tried to do all of those same things with Morgan.  Dan loved to putter outdoors at home and created beautiful water features and gardens.  He liked to bake and made wonderful homemade breads and his pies were always a favorite among family and friends.  When not working outside he and Candice are hobbyist breeders and have Colors in Flight Aviary where they have worked with several species of finches over the last 25 years.  He built cages and made nest boxes and helped to create and design the bird room.  Some of the area Zoos have purchased many of their birds over the years.  They also maintain bird aviaries at some of the area nursing resident's facilities.

Dan will be missed for his easy smile, his fun sense of humor, his laugh, his kindness, his daily hugs and generous heart will be missed everyday by his family.

A Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday Feb.  17, 2014 at St. John's United Church of Christ, 1371 SR 587, Fostoria, Ohio, with Rev. David Culp officiating.  There will be no visitation.  Arrangements are under the direction of Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Morgan Cranmore Scholarship Fund, in care of Fifth Third Bank or to Bridge Hospice.
