Clarence Albert Margraf, age 89, formerly of Walker St., Tiffin, Ohio, died at 5:18 pm, Saturday, January 27, 2007, in St. Francis Home, Tiffin.
He was born on November 9, 1917 in Crawford County to the late Oscar and Judy (Myers) Margraf. On July 23, 1941 in St. Joseph Catholic Church he married Edna Marie Daniel. She died on February 19, 1998.
Survivors include, three sons, Edward (Ted) (Eileen) Margraf, Tiffin; Thomas Margraf of New Riegel; Timothy Margraf of Tiffin; two daughters, Christine (Roger) Cramer of Findlay; and Cecilia (Nicholas) Biller of New Castle, Indiana; 21 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Doris Smith and Virginia Pennycuff both of Tiffin.
He is preceded in death by an infant son; two daughters in law, Karen (Barnhart) Margraf and Cathy (Huss) Margraf; and a brother, George Margraf.
Mr. Margraf was a graduate of Sycamore High School. He served in the United States Army during WWII from 1941 to 1945. He landed on the French coast six days after D-Day and served in the Battle of the Bulge, where he earned a Purple Heart for meritorious service. Clarence worked at the Old Wire Mill (Essex Wire) and he retired from the National Machinery Company in 1983 where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club. After his retirement, he spent many years enjoying time with his grandchildren and traveled with Edna to various surrounding states. Clarence was a member St. Joseph Catholic Parish.
The Funeral Mass will be officiated by Rev. James K. Say at 11:00 am Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at. St. Joseph Catholic Church. The rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the Mass at the church.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military rites conducted by the United Veterans Council of Seneca County.
Visitation will be from 6-9 pm Tuesday, January 30, 2007, with a wake service at 8:30 pm at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113.
Memorial Contributions may be made St. Joseph Catholic Church or to Community Hospice Care in care of Traunero Funeral Home.
