Clara E. (Strausbaugh) Zirger, age 85, of Sycamore Street, Tiffin, died at 3:30 pm, Sunday, August 26, 2007, at her residence. She was born April 23, 1922 as the youngest child of the late Leander and Elizabeth (Gase) Strausbaugh. On November 29, 1947, she married James A. Zirger, who survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Joe (Janet) Zirger, Steve (Doris) Zirger, and Tom (Lyn) Zirger, all of Tiffin; two daughters, Deb Zirger and Jane (Mike) Banks, all of Tiffin; 11 grandchildren, Jeff (Sandy) Zirger, Josh Zirger, Rachel Banks, Alex Banks, Aaron Banks, Emily Banks, Andy Zirger, Dan Zirger, Eric Zirger, Matthew Zirger, and Katie Zirger; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, John Strausbaugh, and sisters Lillian Zimmerman, Anna Rochester, and Hilda Strausbaugh.
Clara was a 1940 graduate of Calvert High School and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She worked in the school library for many years, was a member of the Josephines craft group, and sang in the church choir. Clara enjoyed playing cards, especially with her card club who played cards for over 50 years. She also enjoyed Bingo, word puzzles, and sports – especially the Cleveland Indians. Clara was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and loved her family, especially her grandchildren.
The Funeral Mass will be 10 am Wednesday, August 29, 2007, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. The Rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, Tuesday, August 28, at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113. There will be a Parish Wake Service at 7:45 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Calvert Catholic Schools, St. Joseph Church, or Community Hospice Care, in care of Traunero Funeral Home.
