CHARLES JAMES "JIM" GILLESPIE

Charles James (Jim) Gillespie, 81, of Glennview Terrace, Tiffin died at 3:50 a.m., Monday, January 2, 2006 at St. Vincent-Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.

He was born May 4, 1924 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Charles J. Sr. and Louise (Schuchman) Gillespie. On August 30, 1958, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin he married Helen Elizabeth (Betty) Bork and she survives.

Other survivors include a son; Robert (Bob)(Maureen) Gillespie of Hinsdale, IL, two daughters; Elaine Gillespie of Cincinnati and Janet (Marc) Chafe of Loveland, OH, 9 grandchildren, Isabel, Elise and Philip Gillespie; Corinne, Sophie and Cecily Nelson; Olivia, Sadie and Henry Chafe, one brother; William J.(Suzanne) Gillespie and a sister-in-law, JoAnne Gillespie all of Toledo.

He was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Rev. Paul G. Gillespie, O.S.F.S. and Patrick J. Gillespie.

Mr. Gillespie was a graduate of Hayden High School in Topeka, KS and attended Toledo University. He served in the United States Army during WWII in the Southern Pacific Area from 1943-1946. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin. He retired from working in sales for the Catholic Chronicle. He was a member and former President of the Tiffin Serra Club, where he also served as the former Area Governor District 51. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis and his love of antique automobiles led him to belong to the Pioneer Club and Willys-Overland Knight Registry.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, January 6, and 12-2 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2006 at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, OH 44883. (419) 447-3113.

The funeral mass will be officiated by the Rev. James K. Say in St. Joseph Catholic Church at 3 p.m., Saturday, January 7, 2006. The rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will take place immediately following in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
