Berneice M. Welty, age 88, of Tiffin, Ohio, died at 4 am Monday, May 10, 2004, at her residence. She was born June 5, 1915, in Tiffin, to the late Francis and Elizabeth (Osterwalder) Strausbaugh. On May 4, 1940, in St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, she married Otto F. Welty, who preceded her in death on June 16, 1990.
Surviving are two sons, William Welty, and Charles “Chet” Welty, both of Tiffin; a daughter, Irene (Dwight) Mason of Republic; 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild on the way. Preceding her in death were 3 sisters, Idella Agerter, Elizabeth Kirian, an infant sister, and one brother, Herbert Strausbaugh.
Mrs. Welty was a 1933 Columbian High School graduate and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, its Rosary Altar Society, St. Joseph’s Josephines, Daughters of Isabella, and the Catholic Ladies Bowling League. She was a volunteer at St. Francis Home Auxiliary, Mercy Hospital Craft Guild, and the Mercy Hospital Gift Shop since 1954.
Rev. James K. Say will celebrate the Funeral Mass, with burial following in the parish cemetery. The Rosary will be recited in church at 10:45 am Thursday. Memorials may be made to Calvert Foundation, St. Joseph Church, Mercy Hospital, St. Francis Auxiliary, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
