Alvern N. Boes, Sr., age 87, of E. CR 36, Tiffin, died at 9:20 pm, Sunday, June 15, 2008, at St. Vincent-Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.
He was born December 28, 1920 in Tiffin, to the late Albert J. and Elizabeth (Heinen) Boes. On June 26, 1943, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, he married Donna L. Reed. She died January 24, 2004.
Survivors include three sons, Alvern “Toad” (Fay) Boes, Jr. of Tiffin, Albert (Terri) Boes of Gahanna, and Charles “Chip” (Cheri) Boes of Pensacola, Fla.; two daughters, Becky (John) Lay of Tiffin, and Roberta “Bobbi” (Dave) Wilson of Columbus, Ohio; 20 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; and a brother, W. J. “Pete” Boes of New Riegel.
He was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.
Mr. Boes was a lifelong farmer and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and a charter member of the Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and was a huge Notre Dame fan.
Funeral Mass will be 10 am Thursday, June 19, 2008, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Rev. Joseph Szybka and Rev. James Say officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm, at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419)447-3113. The Rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to Mass at the church.
Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care, Calvert Foundation, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
