Alice E. Distel, 91, formerly of Hopewell Ave. died at noon, Monday, September 20, 2010 at Elmwood at the Shawhan, Tiffin.
Alice was born on April 22, 1919 to the late Charles and Catherine (Councilman) Boner. She married Bernard J. Distel April 2, 1938 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin and he preceded her in death October 8, 1985.
Survivors include four sons, Dave “Whitey” (Char) Distel, Tom (Dee) Distel, Kenneth “Bernie” (Peg) Distel and Jerry (Blondie) Distel, all of Tiffin; a daughter, Pat (Harry) Lucius of Tiffin, 18 grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Boner of Tiffin.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Boner; and four sisters Ethel Lemaire, Florence Boner, Kathryn Schaefer, and Mary Louise Houck; and a great granddaughter, Kayla Lucius.
Alice was a 1937 graduate of Calvert High School. She worked as a bus driver and teacher’s aide for the School of Opportunity. She had also worked at Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream store. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Tiffin and was affectionately known as The Sign Lady near the fairgrounds.
Family and friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2010 with a Wake Service at 4:30 p.m. at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 South Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio. 44883 (419) 447-3113.
Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, September 23, 2010 at the funeral home followed by the funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church officiated by Rev. Gary Walters. The Rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will take place immediately following in Seneca Memory Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice care or to F.A.C.T. in care of Traunero Funeral Home.
